2. Have Regular Eye Exams
Most people wait until they experience eyesight problems to get eye exams. Sometimes, that can be too late. Getting eye exams early can help diagnose problems before they become severe. In fact, most vision defects can be corrected when detected early. Receiving regular eye exams regardless of vision acuity can help detect serious eye problems at the earliest stage – when they are most treatable.
Most eye care professionals recommend that you have a comprehensive eye exam everyone to two years, depending on your age, risk factors and whether you currently wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Your eyes are especially vulnerable to germs and infections. Even things that just irritate your eyes can affect your vision. For those reasons, you should always wash your hands before touching your eyes or handling your contact lenses.
10. Stay Fit
Exercising for at least twenty minutes a day is healthy for your entire body, including your eyes. Improved blood circulation is beneficial to the small blood vessels in the eyes as it removes harmful substances that may have been deposited.
Cardio exercise also increases the flow of blood to the optic nerve and the retina. Because of these effects, overall eye health and vision can be improved, but it’s especially beneficial to people with glaucoma.
Beyond 50, vision can be challenging. However, it can be improved with a good lifestyle, healthy nutrition and regular eye check-up.
